THE Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has urged personnel of the Police Force to be professional in handling criminals, adding that suspects and convicted criminals are entitled to human rights.

He made this charge during his visit to Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, yesterday, urging the officers to be fair and constitutional, while enforcing the law, adding that human rights should be considered during and after arrest.

“When a criminal who has been sentenced to death requests for water or speak with relatives, they should be granted without hesitation because they still have some form of rights. Also, in enforcing the law and order, we do not punish a suspect or criminal as a police officer. You have to be professional in all your dealings and go back to your training manual,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has announced the arrest of 2,228 suspects with offences ranging from armed robbery, cultism, murder, hooliganism, defilement/rape in the state, while 87 arms and 129 ammunition have been recovered.
