The Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), has said a newly deployed platform, called ‘Justice Clock’, will help in eliminating delay in justice delivery in the state.

A statement signed a civic tech organisation, Citizens’ Gavel, explained that during the inauguration of the platform, Onigbanjo noted that the issuance of legal advice had remained a confrontational issue as litigants recurrently complained that case files stayed too long in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions without advice.

He said the platform would be pivotal in achieving an improved justice delivery process.

“We recognise the importance of technology and it is in light of this that we have in partnership with Citizens Gavel, a civic tech NGO, with the support of Open Society Initiative for West Africa, deployed a case management solution to improve on the operational efficiency of the DPP’s office,” Onigbanjo said.

The team lead of Citizens’ Gavel, Nelson Olanipekun, said the development of Justice Clock as a web-based solution platform became imperative due to the need to improve access to justice, eliminate pre-trial problems, and delay in issuance of legal advice.

He said, “With this tech-platform, access to justice, challenges with pre-trial detention and the slow-paced justice delivery process will be improved, especially amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Justice Clock, one of our tech platforms, is a case management system and the first of its kind in the judiciary sector of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice.”

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi, in her remarks, reiterated that the new platform would improve efficiency and service delivery while solving avoidable problems associated with issuance of legal advice.

She said, “We will not fail on the timeline given for issuance of legal advice as it would enhance our service delivery.”
