Intels threatens to sue OGFZA over malicious allegations
A firm, Intels Nigeria Limited management board has threatened to institute legal action against the Oil and Gas Export Free Zone Authority and the managing director of the firm, Mr. Okon Umana, for defamation over “false and malicious allegations” against the company and its management, which it says are injurious to its business interest as well as reputation.

According to letter to Okon Umana, the company stated that it was compiling the losses being suffered by it as a result of the OGFZA boss’ alleged actions both in his official and private capacities.

A statement by the firm on Sunday quoted the letter titled, ‘Re: Various Matters in Contention between Oil & Gas Free Zone Authority and Intels Nigeria Limited’, and dated October 26, 2017 as listing some issues of contention between to include the refusal of the OGFZA to renew the 2017 operating licence of Intels Nigeria Limited; the imposition of land charges by OGFZA; nullification of INL’s industry wide standard tariff and other port-related charges by the OGFZA.

It alleged that the OGFZ MD conveyed messages that were injurious to INL’s business interest and reputation to government agencies and clients, and that the agency did not pay for INL’s premises occupied by it at Onne and the Heliconia Park Estate.

Intels also alleged that the OGFZA refused to renew the residence permit and re-designation of its expatriate employees in the Onne Free Zone.

The firm further stated that the OGFZA had refused to release its licence for 2017 on the ground that the INL had to pay all charges and fees demanded by the agency notwithstanding that the firm had paid in full the renewal fee for the licence.
