The League of Patriotic Lawyers called on the President of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Edo State chapter, to convene an emergency meeting in order to urge his members to boycott the courts over the abducted lawyer matter.

The group called for the immediate release of a kidnapped lawyer, Mr. George Igbokwe, who was abducted yesterday (Monday), close to Abuduin Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.

Briefing newsmen on Mondayyesterday in Lagos, Chairman of the platform, Mr. Abubakar Yesufu, called on the state’s Commissioner of Police and Director of Department of State Services to spare no efforts in ensuring his release without conditions.

Yesufu, a former University of Benin Students’ Union President, called on the President of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Edo State chapter, to convene an emergency meeting in order to urge his members to boycott the courts over the matter.

His words: “We advise all our colleagues to suspend the defense of all cases of alleged kidnapping until George Igbokwe is released.

“He is neither a businessman nor a politician. It is highly unfair to keep him in the unlawful custody of hoodlums. A fine gentleman known for his pro bono matters should not be harmed.

“It is worrisome and ironic that our George, who has been in the forefront for the liberation of the ‘wretched of the earth’ would be made to suffer unjust detention in the hands of these hoodlums and bandits that have invaded the serenity of our beloved Edo State.”
