The Special Fraud Unit (SFU) of the Nigeria Police Service on Monday arraigned a businesswoman, Mrs. Hassiya Hassan, and accomplice, Olusunkanmi Banji, before a Federal High Court in Lagos over an alleged deal in fake gold in the sums of N15, 48,000, and $5000 respectively.
The two defendants were accused of fraudulently obtaining N15, 48,000 and $5000 from one Aisha Sulaiman, purporting to sell genuine gold to her, which the victim, however, found out to be scam.
Mrs. Hassiya Hassan and Olusunkanmi Banji were arraigned on three counts charges before the Hon. Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
According to the police prosecutor, Mr. Henry Obiaze, informed the presiding court that the two defendants, in connivance with others who are still at large, committed the alleged crime sometime in November 2016 in Festac Town in Lagos State.
Mr. Henry Obiaze said they induced the victim, Aisha Sulaiman to deliver the sum of $5000 to one Chief Nana Kokrange in Accra, Ghana, for the purchase of genuine gold, which turned out to be fake.
Mr. Henry Obiaze said Mrs. Hassiya Hassan and Olusunkanmi Banji acted contrary to sections 8(a), 1(a)(3) and 1(3) of Advance Fee Fraud and other related offences Act, 2006 and were liable to be punished under the same law.

The two defendants, Mrs. Hassiya Hassan and Olusunkanmi Banji pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them by the court Registrar.
