The Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court have remanded three men from Niger, Sokoto and Kaduna states in Katsina prison over suspicion that they belonged to a gang of thieves terrorising Funtua in recent times.
The three suspects are Abdullahi Buba, 22, of Bangi Village, Usman Lawal, 22, and Dahiru Abdullahi, 25 of Ringin Gadagau Village, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
They were rounded up at PC International Hotel, Funtua by a police patrol team led by Inspector Bishir Umar attached to the Central Police Station, Funtua on November 27, 2017.
The police said the men could not give satisfactory account of themselves when accosted.
“They were strongly suspected to be among the gang of thieves terrorising the Funtua area,” the police told the Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court where they were arraigned on Friday.
The suspects were charged with criminal conspiracy and belonging to a gang of thieves.
The police said they acted contrary to sections 96 and 306 of the Penal Code.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, said investigation was still in progress and pleaded for an adjournment.
The presiding senior magistrate, Hajiya Fadila Dikko, adjourned the case till February 5, 2018 for mention and directed that the three suspects should be remanded in the prison custody.
