Police arrest alleged mastermind of Benue killings
Some operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team have arrested the alleged mastermind of the killing of over 73 residents of Benue State.

It was learnt that the ringleader, identified as Alhaji Laggi, 40, was arrested along with three others, namely, Mallam Muminini Abdullahi, Muhammed Adamu and Ibrahim Sule.

A friend of the court gathered that the suspects were also arrested for the killing of some policemen in the state.

A senior police officer told our correspondent that the alleged killers were arrested at Tunga town, Nasarawa State.

He said, “Four principal suspects were arrested in Tunga town between February 16 and 19, 2018 by the IRT in connection with the killing of Sgt Solomon Dung, other police officers and many innocent citizens in Benue State.

“Alhaji Laggi is the gang leader of the herdsmen group that perpetrated the killings. He and three others have confessed to the killings and mentioned gang members in possession of the police rifles they took from the slain police officers.”

Our correspondent learnt that the IG, Idris Ibrahim, who was represented by the DIG in charge of operations, Joshak Habila, addressed the press on the arrest in Markurdi on Tuesday.
