The Police have arrested 134 women and two men for their suspected involvement in prostitution-related activities during a 22-day raid that ended on Tuesday (today).
Among the 14 locations where the raid took place were condominiums and flats at Geylang, Clementi, Woodlands, Yishun, Sims Avenue and Raffles Boulevard, all in Singapore, the Police said in a statement.
During the raid, the Police seized items including three mobile phones and a CCTV camera.
The Police reminded flat owners to conduct regular checks on their tenants to prevent vice activities from proliferating in residential estates. Tenants who are convicted of misusing a flat issued by Housing and Development Board will not be allowed to rent a flat for five years.
Flat owners who rent their premises out for prostitution-related activities face a maximum jail term of three years or a fine of up to $3,000 or both upon conviction. For a second or subsequent conviction, they face a maximum jail term of five years or a fine of up to $10,000 or both.
A person who is involved in commercial sex faces a jail term of up to five years and a maximum fine of $10,000.
Any male person who is convicted of a second or subsequent offence faces caning in addition to a jail term.
