Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nassarawa State |
At least 1,000 aggrieved pensioners, on Friday, dragged Nasarawa State Government to the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), Makurdi, over non-payment of accumulated gratuity and pension arrears.
Counsel to the claimers (pensioners), Sunday Okpale, told the court that his clients have not been paid gratuity since 2011.
He lamented that since September 2016, his clients are only paid their monthly pension in percentage, saying, “failure of the state government has pushed them into untold hardship.”
The counsel said the matter was scheduled for hearing after the state government (respondent) was served with appropriate notice, but it refused to show up in court.
He asked the court to grant his clients summary judgment to compel the government to pay them their balance and gratuity.
In his ruling, Presiding Judge, Justice Salish Danjida, adjourned the matter to February 11, 2020 for summary judgment.
