Ex-convict arraigned for burglary in Katsina
A middle-aged man, Jubrin Aliyu, alias Gabere, has been arraigned before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court for alleged burglary and causing grievous bodily harm.

The police described him as an ex-convict and a notorious social miscreant.

It was learnt that one Kabir Manir of the Darman Quarters, Katsina, reported to the police that Aliyu of Mallam Mudi’s Quarters, attacked him with a sharp knife at the Kadabo area of Katsina, and inflicted a deep cut on his left hand.

Manir added that he also lost a mobile telephone handset worth N7,700 and a sum of N7,700 to the attacker.

The police consequently arraigned Aliyu before the court under sections 306 and 248 (2) of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, on Thursday, informed the court that the accused, who was on bail, was not in court. He therefore urged the court to give the accused the benefit of the doubt.

The presiding Senior Magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, granted the request and adjourned the case till January 28, 2019, for mention.

Meanwhile, the court has directed the duo of Aminu Bala (20) of Wurma village and Sani Abubakar (20) of Tamo village, Kurfi Local Government Area of the state, to appear before it on January 30, 2019.

The two men, along with one Isah, alias Igalle, who is currently at large, were to be arraigned for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, which contravene Section 1 (2) (a) Act, Cap 2004 LFN and Section 96 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor told the court that one Kabir Salisu of Kaguwa village in the same local government reported at the Kurfi Police Station that some unknown men invaded his residence with sticks and cutlasses while he was asleep.

He told the police that the assailants attacked him and dispossessed him of a mobile telephone handset valued at N7,000 as well as the sum of N8,000.

Police investigation into the incident led to the arrest of two of the accused persons, while the third suspect was said to be on the run.

The police prosecutor said the investigation was still ongoing.

The two accused persons, who were granted bail, were directed to appear in court on the next adjourned date.
