The Kano State Police Command recorded over 337 major crime, including 105 rape cases, 22 robberies and 21 kidnappings in 2018.In its end of year review made available to Northern City News, the command said it also recorded 168 homicide and 34 theft cases in the just concluded year.

The report indicated that 2,487 miscreants, locally referred to as ‘Yandaba’, were arrested during the period under review.

The figures showed a significant decline in cases of violent crime, especially robberies, kidnapping and rape.

The report indicated that while 601 cases were recorded from January to December 2017, in comparison, 337 cases were recorded in the same period of 2018.

The number of robbery suspects arrested in 2017 was put at 35, while 22 were arrested in 2018.

A total of 166 cases of homicide were recorded in 2017, while 168 were recorded in the year just ended. There were 42 kidnap suspects arrested in 2017, while 21 were nabbed in 2018.

Similarly, the command impounded 83 different weapons such as rifles, shotguns and pistols, 269 calibres of ammunition and cartridges.

With the commencement of political activities, the command said it had set up machinery aimed at synergising with the various critical stakeholders and the public to ensure a peaceful and conducive atmosphere.

Already, the command has intensified raids on flashpoints with a view to flushing out criminals.
