Three attendants at a Nipco filling station in Osogbo, Osun State, Azeez Abdulsamad, Nasiru Aranse and Medinat Salako, have been arraigned before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing the sum of N1,150,000, being sales proceeds of the station.
The accused were arraigned on counts of conspiracy, fraud and theft.
According to the police, Abdulsamad stole the proceeds and was later defrauded by Aranse and Salako, who took the money from him under the pretext that they would provide charms that would make him rich.
The charge sheet read in part, “That you, Azeez Abdulsamad, at a Nipco filling station, Osogbo, did steal the sum of N1,150,000, property of one Afolabi Kayode.
“That you, Nurudeen Aranse and Medinat Salako and others at large, fraudulently obtained the sum of N1,150,000 from one Azeez Abdulsamad under the pretext that you would provide some charms that would make him rich.”
The police prosecutor, ASP Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on August 28, 2018, at a Nipco filling station, Osogbo.
He explained that the accused conspired among themselves to defraud the owner of the filling station, Afolabi, of the sum of N1,150,000.
He added that the defendants were on the run before they were arrested and brought before the court.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 516, 419 (D) and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 vol. 11, Laws of Osun State, 2003.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defence counsel, Mr Muyideen Adeoye, pleaded with the court to admit his clients to bail.
Ruling on the bail application, Magistrate Mary Awodele, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1m each and two sureties each in like sum.
She adjourned the case till February 19, 2019, for hearing.
