A 30-year-old man, Bishir Sabiu, of the Yakafinta quarters, Jibia, Katsina State, is now in trouble as suspected armed robbers have fingered him as a receiver of stolen goods.
Sabiu’s case comes up for mention today before Senior Magistrate Hajiya Fadila Dikko.
He is facing charges for allegedly receiving property obtained by means of armed robbery, which the police say is contrary to Section 5 of the Robbery and Firearms Act Cap R11, LFN, 2004.
According to the police, on March 15, 2018, a two-member armed robbery gang attacked a couple at the Tasher Hurera Quarters, Jibia, and robbed them of N30,000 and a Suzuki motorcycle, among other things.
The police later arrested the suspects, who reportedly identified Sabiu as the receiver of their stolen items.
The senior magistrate had informed the accused at the earlier court sitting that the offence, which he was being accused of, could only be handled by a high court, pointing out that he was brought before her for cognizance purposes only.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, however, told the court that investigation into the case was still in progress, prompting him to request for another date.
Hajiya Dikko granted the request and adjourned the case.
