The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, on Tuesday, vowed that those involved in dehumanising a 24-year-old woman, Favour Ada, must face justice.
Odumosu also said he learnt that an ex-Special Assistant to former governor Adams Oshiomhole, Lucky Igunbor, who was allegedly involved in dehumanising the woman, was notorious.
He stated these while addressing members of the Federation of International Women Lawyers and other non-governmental organisations, who were protesting violence against women.
Igunbor was one of the three suspects remanded in prison on Monday by a Benin City High Court (criminal division) for allegedly stripping naked 24-year-old Ada and inserting pepper into her private parts.
The CP also warned landlords and hoteliers to be careful and avoid negative acts to be perpetrated in their homes and hotels.
Odumosu stated, “The suspects were paraded and charged to court yesterday (Monday), as well as the landlord of the house. Eight of them were involved; six were arrested, including the landlord of the house. He did not only provide his house for the dehumanisation of the woman, he equally witnessed it.
“I asked him if this happened to have been done to his wife, sister or daughter, what would be his reaction, he didn’t say anything, but the law is going to take its course.
“They were charged to court on Monday and have been remanded. They were charged to court on 14 counts, including attempted murder, dehumanisation and trial by ordeal and extortion.
“At the end of the day, we discovered that the allegation of phone theft levelled against the woman was just cooked up in order to extort money from her. The phone that was alleged to have been stolen was never stolen.”
