Arsonists: Five houses burnt in Osun as PDP, APC senatorial candidates trade accusations |
The senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and that of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun have engage in accusations and counter-accusations as suspected political thugs set five houses on fire in Igangan, a village in Atakumosa East Local Government Area.
Persons suspected to be political thugs on Sunday evening reportedly set ablaze five buildings; while a car belonging to an indigene of Iwara town, a neighbouring community to Igangan, simply identified as Folorunsho Aderibigbe, was also burnt by the arsonists.
Residents of Igangan who volunteered information about the attack, said the hoodlums attacked the community around 8:00pm in the evening and set some buildings on fire.
“We were too scared to come out when the attackers came. We all watched from hiding as the arsonists razed the buildings. It was such a horrible scene,” a resident who pleaded anonymity said.
The senatorial candidates of APC and that of PDP, Hon Ajibola Famurewa and Prince Francis Fadahunsi, respectively, had traded accusations over the incident.
During a visit to the scene of the attack, Osun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Ige, assured residents that Police would beef up security in the area; while promising that efforts would be made to arrest and prosecute the culprits.
