The Katsina Police Command on Friday afternoon confirmed that abductors have released the 80-year-old Hajiya Maistiyari, mother of Binta, Governor Aminu Masari’s wife.
The octogenarian was said to have been released on Thursday.
It was, however, not known whether any ransom was paid for her release.
Spokesman for the Command, SP Gambo Isah, who confirmed her release, said in a statement, “I am very happy to inform you that the the mother in- law of His Excellency, Aminu Masari, has been released by her abductors yesterday 14/03/2019 by 16:00hrs.
“She is hale and hearty. She has already been reunited with her family after necessary medical check-ups.”
It could be recalled that Hajiya Maistiyari was kidnapped last Friday morning at her No 13, Dandume Crescent, Sabon Gari area of Katsina State.
Meanwhile, the Command said it has also arrested a notorious member of a kidnap syndicate, one Haruna Adamu, who hails from Zamfara State.
According to the Command, Adamu was arrested in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State where he and his other gang members, who are now at large, reportedly attacked a family.
SP Isah further said, “The syndicate attacked the house of one Mustapha Sani ‘M’ of Bakon Zabo Village, Batsari; and attempted to kidnap his two wives but they were resisted.
“They were pursued and the said Haruna was arrested by a combined team of Police and vigilante members of the village.
“The Command continues to solicit for the co-operation and support of general public in the fight against banditry.”
