Detectives of the Ogun State police command yesterday arrested a 31-year-old fake soldier, Jolly Gilbert. 
The fake soldier was arrested during a raid of criminal hideout and black spots at Eyin Ogbe area of Ogijo. He was arrested along with two others in military camouflage shirt.

According to the police spokesman in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on interrogation, the suspect claimed to be a soldier serving with 174 Battalion of the Nigerian army. A signal was sent to the Battalion to authenticate his claim and it was revealed that the suspect was a fake soldier.

Recovered from him were a soldier’s identity card, a jack knife, ‘military hardware’ and assorted charms. The Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) for discreet investigation and prosecution.

Meanwhile, two policemen and two paramilitary officers attached to the Lagos State task force were at the weekend injured by commercial motorcycle operators, popularly called Okada riders during enforcement duty on restricted routes in the metropolis. Already, seven persons have been arrested and charged to court in connection with the attacks.

The attack on the security officials were allegedly done by Okada operators plying restricted routes around Oworonsoki, Adeniji Adele junction, Obalende, Falomo, Lekki Phase 1 and Ikoyi link-bridge areas of the state.

Chairman of the task force, Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), disclosed that the operators attacked officers of the agency with stones, bottles and iron rod while on legitimate mission to arrest some of them breaking the law by plying restricted routes.

Egbeyemi disclosed further that four officers of the agency, comprising of two policemen and two paramilitary officers were injured with deep cuts on their heads, faces and legs. He said the officers were not deterred, as they were able to arrest seven persons and impound 92 motorcycles plying the restricted routes.
