A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday remanded four security guards in correctional facility for alleged murder.
The defendants are Sunday Onilede, 28; Fatai Alao, 40; Abdullahi Ibrahim, 29 and Hassan Rasak, 35.
They are facing a two–count charge of conspiracy to commit murder and murder.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Adedayo, however, did not take the pleas of the defendants.
Adebayo ordered that the defendants should be remanded at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre, Lagos State, pending legal advice from the State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The prosecuting lawyer with the State Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Mr C.A. Okhiku, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Feb. 13, at Bariga area of Lagos.
Okhiku said the defendants were security officers patrolling the area and that they got into a fight with the deceased who had blocked the road with his car.
He said the defendants inflicted a deep cut on the man’s neck with machete during the fight leading to his death before getting to the hospital.
He said the offences contravened Sections 223 and 233 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015. (Revised)
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 223 stipulates death penalty for the offence of murder while 233 provides for 14 years for conspiracy to murder.
The case was adjourned until April 6.
