The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, today, Friday, August 28, 2026, formally hand over the leadership mantle of the Association to its newly elected National Executive Council at an inauguration ceremony in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The ceremony, scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., will take place at the Ceremonial Court of the High Court Complex, Port Harcourt, and will mark the formal transition from the outgoing national administration to the newly elected leadership.
At the ceremony, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, officially assume office as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association, succeeding Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, who has led the Association since 2024.
The handing-over and inauguration formally bring the tenure of the outgoing national officers to an end and usher in the newly elected officers who will oversee the affairs of the Association for the next administration.
The transition follows the conclusion of the 2026 NBA national elections and comes amid activities marking the Association’s 66th Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt.
Osigwe, SAN, the NBA’s 32nd President, commenced his two-year tenure in 2024 and is expected to formally hand over the leadership of the Association to his successor during the ceremony.
Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, alongside the other newly elected national officers, are expected to assume their respective responsibilities immediately after the inauguration, marking the beginning of a new leadership cycle for the foremost Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
The Association has invited lawyers and other members to attend the ceremony and witness what it described as a significant occasion in the life of the Nigerian Bar.
