The 13th China–Africa Legal Professionals Exchange Programme officially commenced in the People’s Republic of China on June 25, 2026, bringing together legal professionals from across Africa and China to deepen legal cooperation, strengthen institutional partnerships, and promote mutual understanding between the two regions.

Hosted by the China Law Society and organised by the China Legal Exchange Centre, the programme opened with a formal ceremony attended by senior officials of the Chinese legal community, representatives of the host institutions, distinguished legal scholars, and delegates from several African countries.

The annual exchange programme serves as a strategic platform for fostering dialogue and collaboration among legal practitioners, academics, judges, policymakers, and institutional leaders from China and Africa. It is designed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge on contemporary legal developments while promoting greater understanding of the legal systems, judicial reforms, and governance frameworks of participating countries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, organisers highlighted the growing importance of legal cooperation in supporting the expanding economic, commercial, and diplomatic relations between China and African nations. They emphasised that effective legal systems, robust dispute resolution mechanisms, and enhanced professional exchanges are essential to sustaining investment, trade, and cross-border collaboration under the evolving China–Africa partnership.

Participants from different countries are engaging in series of lectures, academic discussions, exchange symposiums, institutional visits, and interactive sessions covering a broad range of subjects, including international commercial law, socialist rule of law system with Chinese characteristics, artificial intelligence regulation, ecological and environmental law, dispute resolution under the Belt and Road Initiative, legal education reform, and China–Africa legal service cooperation.

The exchange programme also provides participants with the opportunity to examine China’s legal institutions firsthand, interact with leading legal practitioners and scholars, and explore best practices that may contribute to strengthening legal systems and access to justice across Africa.

The China–Africa Legal Professionals Exchange Programme has, over the years, become an important avenue for promoting legal diplomacy, professional development, and enduring partnerships between the legal communities of China and Africa. The 13th edition is expected to further consolidate these objectives

by encouraging dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaborative solutions to emerging legal challenges in an increasingly interconnected global environment.
