In a related development, police arrested three suspects over the alleged theft of a Lexus RX 300 SUV from Lagos.
The suspects — Obada Ezekiel, 27; Emmanuel Timothy, 25; and Yaya Yakubu, 27 — were apprehended on April 18, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m. following a distress call received by operatives of the Ibafo Division.
Babaseyi said officers tracked the suspects to a hideout in the Ibafo area, where the stolen vehicle was recovered.
He said: “Operatives of the Ibafo Division, Ogun State Police Command, in swift response to a distress call and credible intelligence, have arrested three suspects … for conspiracy and theft of a motor vehicle, and recovered a stolen ash-coloured Lexus RX 300 SUV.
“The arrest was made on April 18, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m., following a credible anonymous tip-off which led operatives to track the suspects to a hideout within the Ibafo axis, where the stolen vehicle was recovered in their possession.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the security guard conspired with the two others to steal the vehicle from Lagos and move it to Ibafo for disposal.”
He added that the suspects would be transferred to the SCID, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their swift response and effective use of intelligence. He also acknowledged members of the public for providing timely information and reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
