Lateef Akangbe, SAN: A life of legal excellence, leadership, and service [THE PROFILE]Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN

I extend my warmest goodwill to the Chairman, Executive Committee, and entire members of the Ikorodu Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association on the occasion of your 2026 Law Week.

The theme, “Courtroom to Community: The Lawyers’ Mandate in Nation Building,” is both timely and deeply instructive. It reminds us that the role of the lawyer transcends advocacy within the courtroom and calls for a deliberate commitment to societal impact, public service, and the strengthening of our democratic institutions.

As legal practitioners, we are uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between law and society by championing justice, promoting accountability, and contributing meaningfully to national development. This Law Week presents an important opportunity to reflect on that responsibility and to recommit ourselves to a more people centered practice of law.

I commend the leadership of the Branch for curating such a forward looking theme and for their continued dedication to the growth of the profession.

It is my earnest hope that the deliberations of this Law Week will inspire actionable ideas and renew our collective commitment to building a more just, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria.
