An Abuja-based lawyer, Isaac Ofodile, has dragged mobile telecommunication company, MTN, to court for blocking his line and causing him social and economic inconvenience.

In a Writ of Summons marked FCT/HC/CV/868/2026 and filed at the FCT High Court Abuja, the lawyer accused the telecom giant of unlawfully disconnecting his phone number from their network without any justification whatsoever.

In the Suit cited by our correspondence, the lawyer prays the court to direct MTN to pay damages of N100,000,000.00 for breach of contract.

In the Statement of claim, the lawyer avers that the act of blocking, barring and disconnection of his Mobile Telephone Network Number: 0806*****67 by the Defendant (MTN) from making calls, sending text messages and performing every other services on his phone number from the 1st–9th day of January 2025 without lawful justification is wrongful and amounts to a flagrant breach of the contractual obligation the defendant owes to the claimant as a customer and subscriber of the Defendant’s network services. It is the lawyer’s case that MTN blocked his number on the 1st day of January 2025 up till the 9th day of January 2025. When he questioned the telecom company why they blocked his phone number, MTN responded that he did not link his National Identity Number (NIN) to his telephone line.

Available information shows that the lawyer has already submitted his NIN to MTN to link the same with his phone number and failure of MTN to do their job should not affect him.

The suit is slated for hearing on the 14th of April 2026.
