Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, is an accomplished Nigerian legal practitioner whose career reflects excellence in advocacy, leadership within the Bar, and a profound commitment to the development of the legal profession. Mr. Akangbe is known for his intellect, discipline, and devotion to justice. As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, he stands among the most respected figures in the Nigerian legal community.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Wolverhampton, a Master of Laws degree from the University of Westminster, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of South Wales. This blend of legal and business training equipped him with a unique capacity to navigate both complex legal questions and the commercial realities that shape modern legal practice.
Mr. Akangbe began his professional rise in the distinguished law firm of Sofunde, Osakwe, Ogundipe and Belgore, where he rose through the ranks to become the Managing Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution. His practice covers commercial litigation, international arbitration, tax disputes, constitutional law, and corporate advisory. In the course of his career, he has led teams representing multinational corporations, financial institutions, and foreign entities in high-level engagements, particularly in complex tax and commercial matters that have contributed to shaping jurisprudence in Nigeria.
In professional leadership, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, has played influential roles. As Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch between 2019 and 2021, he provided direction during a critical period in the Bar’s evolution, championing welfare initiatives, institutional reforms, and the strengthening of ethical standards. He has been a member of the National Executive Council of the NBA since 2019, consistently contributing to policy discussions and the advancement of the profession. He has also served on several impactful committees of the NBA, both at the national and branch levels, such as, Chairman, Finance Committee of the NBA between 2022 – 2024. His exceptional work in area of tax law earned him a key role as Africa Membership officer of the International Bar Association (IBA) where he represented and championed African interests in the global taxes committees of the IBA.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) United Kingdom (Nigeria Branch). He is a member of the executive committee of the CIArb and an Approved Tutor for its Fellowship Programs. He had been the Chairman of the Young Members Group of the CIArb UK (Nigeria Branch) between 2008 and 2014. He is also an Associate Member of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria.
Akangbe is known to champion social justice through pro bono work, gender equality advocacy, and access to justice efforts. He also supports the Lawyers in Business initiative by mentoring lawyers on financial intelligence and modern legal/business models.
