OGEPA demands environmental law enforcement against aluminium recyclers

The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) has urged members of the Aluminium Recyclers Association to comply strictly with environmental laws on waste disposal and emission control.

The General Manager of OGEPA, Kehinde Bello, made the call during a meeting with members of the association at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital.

Bello said adherence to environmental regulations guiding waste disposal and emission control would protect host communities from health hazards and foster cordial relationships between recyclers and residents. He assured members of the association of an enabling environment to operate and expand their businesses across the state in order to boost the sector.

He explained that the meeting was aimed at strengthening collaboration, resolving operational challenges and promoting unity within the aluminium recycling sector. Bello also emphasised the importance of recycling, noting that it helps to reduce environmental pollution and create employment opportunities for residents of the state.

“We are committed to supporting harmony among members and ensuring a level playing field for all operators,” he said.

Bello added that his office would remain open to operators and relevant stakeholders to promote an environmentally friendly workspace.

Earlier, the chairman of the association, Kamoru Mudashiru, expressed appreciation to the agency’s management for creating the opportunity to engage members and jointly explore ways to improve their operations. He pledged the association’s full cooperation with OGEPA in sustaining a cleaner, safer and healthier environment across the state.
