A legal practitioner and tax expert, Akindele Akinola, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives, pledging to bring competence, accountability and technical expertise to legislative duties.

Akinola is seeking to represent the Akure North/South Federal Constituency of Ondo State.

The aspirant, who currently serves as a part-time Commissioner at the Tax Appeal Tribunal, said his decision to join the race was driven by a desire to strengthen governance through informed lawmaking and effective representation.

In campaign messages shared through public engagements and online platforms, he emphasised the need for a shift from what he described as “routine representation” to a more purposeful and result-driven approach in the National Assembly.

According to him, Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges require lawmakers with a strong grasp of legal, financial and regulatory systems, noting that his background positioned him to contribute meaningfully to national development.

Akinola, who has over two decades of experience spanning legal practice, taxation, banking and media, said representation must translate into measurable impact on constituents’ lives.

The legal practitioner is a founding partner at Stone-waters Law Office, where he has handled complex financial and regulatory transactions, including cross-border financing and structured deals.

His legal expertise also covers insolvency litigation and compliance matters involving federal securities laws.

Before establishing his firm, he worked with Olaniwun Ajayi LP and George Etomi & Partners, gaining experience in corporate and commercial law. His early career began in the banking sector at Trans International Bank during his National Youth Service, after which he moved into tax practice with Ruku & Associates.

Beyond law, Akinola has contributed to public discourse through journalism, having worked as a financial correspondent with media organisations such as The Comet and The Nation.

His appointment at the Tax Appeal Tribunal further underscores his involvement in Nigeria’s fiscal system. The tribunal is responsible for resolving disputes between taxpayers and government revenue agencies.

In the political space, Akinola has a history of involvement dating back to the early 1990s, with affiliations to parties including the Social Democratic Party, Alliance for Democracy and the All Progressives Congress.

He previously served as Deputy National Legal Adviser to a Presidential Independent Campaign Council and also worked as a Senior Legislative Aide to a lawmaker representing the constituency in 2015, giving him firsthand experience in legislative processes.

His campaign focuses on improving legislative quality, strengthening oversight functions and ensuring that government policies deliver tangible benefits to citizens. He identified accountability, fiscal responsibility and economic development as key priorities.

Akinola also stressed the need for laws that support business growth, attract investment and create employment opportunities, particularly for young people.

His entry into the race comes amid growing public demand for more effective representation and increased scrutiny of lawmakers’ performance, especially in constituency development and legislative productivity.
