The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has sympathised with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Chapter, and the Bauchi State Government following a tragic road accident involving journalists on the Bauchi–Alkaleri road.
The accident occurred on Friday, February 6, 2026, and involved journalists accompanying an NEDC delegation to the commissioning and handover of completed projects across Bauchi State.
In a statement signed by the commission’s Head of Corporate Services, Abba Musa, and made available to journalists on Saturday, the NEDC said its governing board, management, and staff were heartbroken by the incident.
The commission extended its condolences to the affected journalists, their families, and the entire journalism community.
The statement disclosed that the NEDC governing board has approved providing full support and care to the victims of the accident and their families.
It added that the commission has commenced contacts with the parent organisations of the affected journalists, as well as their families, to ensure coordinated and effective assistance.
The NEDC also joined colleagues in the media industry in praying for the quick and complete recovery of those injured in the incident.
The accident comes barely a few weeks after a similar tragedy in neighbouring Gombe State, where no fewer than seven journalists and media workers lost their lives.
