The Egbe Amofin O’odua, the umbrella association of lawyers of Yoruba extraction, has intensified engagements ahead of the forthcoming Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election with the presentation of its consensus candidate to the Eastern Bar Forum (EBF).
Reaffirming its commitment to unity, inclusiveness and collaborative leadership within the NBA, the chairman of the Governing Council of the group, Aare Isiaka Olagunju (SAN), formally presented Mr Muyiwa Akinboro (SAN) as the association’s candidate for the NBA 2026 national election.
The presentation was made at the EBF Quarterly Meeting held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, Abia State, before an audience comprising leaders of the Bar, Senior Advocates of Nigeria and legal practitioners drawn from across the country.
The Egbe Amofin O’odua delegation was led by Olagunju and included the Vice Chairman, Oluwatoyin Bashorun (SAN), as well as the Auditor, Moshood Abiola.
The composition of the delegation was said to underscore the institutional character of the visit and the collective resolve of the association’s membership.
In his address, Olagunju drew attention to the long-standing and time-honoured relationship between the group and the Eastern Bar Forum, noting that the partnership is founded on mutual respect, shared values and a common commitment to the unity and progress of the Nigerian Bar.
He recalled that both fora have, over the years, consistently supported each other’s legitimate aspirations by backing credible candidates for NBA national leadership positions, a practice he said has helped to promote balance, inclusiveness and cohesion within the association.
Olagunju stated that the presentation of Akinboro was in keeping with this tradition of cooperation, describing him as a candidate of proven professional excellence and integrity, with a pan-Nigerian outlook.
He added that Akinboro’s vision and leadership aspirations align with the ideals jointly upheld by Egbe Amofin O’odua and the Eastern Bar Forum.
The association expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the EBF for the warm reception accorded its delegation and for sustaining the enduring spirit of brotherhood that has characterised relations between both groups over the decades.
Egbe Amofin O’odua further stated that it remains confident that the long-standing alliance between the two fora will continue to promote the collective interests of the Nigerian Bar and strengthen it as a united, principled and forward-looking professional body.
