A legal practitioner, Mr. Adam Tanko Jibril, has petitioned the Bauchi State Command of the Nigerian Police Force over alleged cases of impersonation, forgery, and unlawful use of his Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) stamp and seal.
In a formal complaint dated 20 January 2026 and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jibril accused one Hassan Mijinyawa, also known as Barrister Hassan Mijinyawa, of falsely presenting himself as a legal practitioner and using Mr. Jibril’s NBA stamp and seal without authorization.
According to the petition, the suspect allegedly affixed the stamp and seal on legal documents and represented himself to members of the public and institutions as either Mr. Jibril or a qualified legal practitioner, actions described as false and fraudulent.
Mr. Jibril stated categorically that he never gave express or implied consent to Mr. Mijinyawa to use his stamp and seal or to act on his behalf in any professional capacity. He noted that the alleged acts constitute serious criminal offences, including impersonation, forgery, obtaining by false pretence, and personation, contrary to the Penal Code Laws of Bauchi State 2022 and other relevant laws in Nigeria.
The legal practitioner further expressed concern that the continued misuse of his NBA stamp and seal exposes him to professional, legal, and reputational risks, while also undermining the integrity of the legal profession.
He therefore urged the Bauchi State Police Command to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, arrest and prosecute the suspect in accordance with the law, and take measures to prevent further misuse of his identity, stamp, and seal. He also requested that the matter be reported to relevant law enforcement agencies for necessary action.
Mr. Jibril disclosed that he has attached copies of documents and other materials to support police investigations and stated his readiness to provide further assistance whenever required.
As of the time of filing this report, the Bauchi State Police Command has not issued an official response to the petition.
