Truth is treated as a crime in Nigeria, Eedris Abdulkareem calls out FG for banning anti-Tinubu song

Ace rapper Eedris Abdulkareem has responded to the National Broadcasting Commission’s (NBC) decision to ban his latest single, Tell Your Papa, from being aired on radio and TV. The song, which criticizes President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, was deemed “objectionable” by the NBC.

In an Instagram post, Eedris expressed his frustration, calling the song a legitimate form of truth and constructive criticism. He compared the situation to his experience with the Obasanjo administration in 2004, when his hit song Jaga Jaga was also banned.

He slammed Tinubu’s government as “one of the most insensitive, vindictive, and grossly maleficent” administrations in Nigeria’s history, accusing it of stifling free speech and constructive criticism.

Eedris also highlighted the administration’s failures, stating that Nigerians, regardless of their background, recognize the government’s abysmal performance. He pointed to the recent directive from NBC to broadcasters to shield the government as an example of censorship.

He concluded by reflecting on Nigeria’s lack of progress and reiterated his belief that only truth can heal the nation’s wounds. “Aluta Continua!” he wrote, urging continued resistance against oppressive forces.

Earlier in June 2024, Eedris released another song, Emilokan, in which he challenged RCCG founder Enoch Adeboye to critique Tinubu’s government, just as he did during Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
