land governance policy, Imo targets N10b revenue

The Imo State government has disclosed that it is targeting about N10 billion in revenue from the transition to digital land governance and land-related revenue, marking a significant step toward economic sustainability under its Imo Land Information System.

Also, consumers have been advised to leverage technology to empower themselves and promote sustainable living.

The Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, Dr. Chimezie Amadi, gave the advice on Tuesday in Owerri during this year’s World Consumer Day celebrations.

He noted the commitment of the state government to floating the Imo Digital Economy Agenda (IDEA) to ensure that Imo residents are conversant with digital processes associated with prices, sustainable lifestyles, and other daily transactions.

Amadi, who was the keynote speaker, maintained that the Imo State Consumer Protection Council (ISCPC), in conjunction with his ministry, was working towards the digital education of residents, urging all to embrace the commitment.

He stressed the need for consumer education, including fair trading prices, ethical business conduct, and other associated issues.

The theme, “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles,” he noted, was apt, adding that it defined the moment of “sustainability, equity, and accessibility.”

He continued: “The consumer holds immense power in shaping production patterns, corporate behaviour, and environmental outcomes. A sustainable lifestyle is not just a choice—it’s a responsibility we all share.”

The Imo Land Information System, he informed, would soon be in place to ensure that all the information about any land in the state is available digitally.

In her address, the Director General of the ISCPC, Dr. Obioma Okafor, noted the need for consumers’ “right to safety and protection.”

She also stressed the importance of the right to be informed, guaranteeing access to accurate information; the right to choose, providing a variety of quality options at fair prices; and the right to be heard, amplifying consumer voices in policy decisions and grievance redressal.
