El-Rufai: Don’t drag Lagosians into your grievances, says Mumuni

Ambassador Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai to refrain from involving Lagosians in his current political struggles.

Mumuni’s statement came after El-Rufai’s recent remarks, where he accused the APC of sidelining loyal party members while favoring “Lagos boys” with political positions. Speaking in an interview with the BBC, El-Rufai also claimed that the APC had strayed from its foundational principles, and positions within the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu were being awarded based on favoritism rather than merit.

In his response, Mumuni condemned El-Rufai’s divisive comments and advised him to keep Lagos politics out of his grievances. Mumuni emphasized that many of the individuals El-Rufai refers to as “Lagos boys” are not even true Lagos indigenes but have simply shown loyalty to President Tinubu.

Mumuni also pointed out that, despite his own significant contributions to Tinubu’s election victory, he had not received any political appointments and was not complaining, unlike some others. He further emphasized that while he had no problem with El-Rufai speculating on APC matters, dragging Lagosians into the debate was uncalled for.

“El-Rufai should be mindful of his statements,” Mumuni said. “I was part of the campaign and worked hard for Asiwaju’s victory, yet I haven’t been appointed. I’m not parading myself for

a position. If the President deems me fit, I’ll serve, but I won’t let anyone distort my integrity or involve me in unnecessary rhetoric.”
