‘This injustice will not be sustained’ Natasha vows to fight Senate suspension

Senator Natasha Akpabio-Uduaghan has spoken out following her six-month suspension by the Senate, which came amid her sexual harassment accusations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions had recommended her suspension, with additional measures to strip her of her salary and security details during this period. The Senate then voted on the recommendations, and the decision was unanimously supported, leading to her suspension from the Senate.

While the vote was still ongoing, Senator Natasha expressed her resolve, declaring, “This injustice will not be sustained,” before her microphone was abruptly turned off.

Her suspension followed a controversy where she refused to vacate her assigned seat in the Senate, citing Order 10 of the Senate Standing Rules, which safeguards the privileges of members. This led the Senate to refer the matter to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for further investigation.

Amidst this, Senator Natasha made public accusations of sexual harassment against Akpabio, claiming that the Senate President had been targeting her because she had refused his sexual advances. Earlier, on March 6, 2025, Natasha resubmitted her harassment petition to the Senate after an initial rejection due to procedural errors.

Senate President Akpabio, however, has denied the accusations, stating that he has never harassed any woman.
