A Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has ordered the remand of social media influencer Reno Omokri and three others in prison custody over allegations of defamation.
The accused include former Dunamis Church Pastor Abraham Daniel, Mr. Enenche Idoga Alexander, and Oboyinlo Enenche Peter, all of whom are facing the charges alongside Omokri. The ruling was issued by Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Ayanna on January 13, 2025, following an ex-parte motion filed by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, through his lawyer, Francis Gabriel, Esq.
In the motion (No. ME/07/2025), the court granted the request for a remand order, directing the four respondents to be held in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service while investigations continue.
The court’s order reads: “The Respondents—Mr. Daniel Abraham, Mr. Enenche Idoga Alexander, Oboyinlo Enenche Peter, and Mr. Reno Omokri—are to remain in custody pending the completion of investigations and their eventual arraignment before a competent court.” “They are to be produced in court on January 30, 2025, for further proceedings.”
Omokri, known for his controversial opinions on political and religious issues, has faced criticism for his outspoken views in the past. The legal proceedings will continue on January 30, 2025, when the accused are scheduled to appear in court.
