The Larry Omodia Foundation for Justice Reform, an affiliate of African Television, has called on the Nigerian Police Force to interrogate the allies of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba popularly known as Mohbad based on new findings.
During a TikTok discussion initiated by Adura Aloba, Yomi Fabiyi and Adura Aloba reportedly shared insights into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
However, Aloba later claimed that his account was hacked by one Damola Habeeb Ayinde, an assertion the foundation has described as suspicious.
Addressing newsmen in Lagos yesterday, the chairman of the foundation, Larry Omodia disclosed that a petition has been filed against Adura Aloba, Omowunmi Aloba, and Damola Ayinde for allegedly conspiring in the murder of Mohbad, who died in September 2023.
He noted that the exact date of his death is still under investigation by the Lagos State Chief Coroner.
“The claim that Adura’s account was hacked is both mischievous and part of a recurring pattern among those present during the critical 24 hours leading to Mohbad’s death,” Omodia stated.
Omodia referenced an earlier petition against Boluwatife Adeyemo, also known as Darosha, at the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos.
Darosha had been accused of tampering with Mohbad’s corpse, violating Section 16 of the Lagos State Coroner Law (2007).
Initially, Darosha allegedly confessed on Instagram to embalming Mohbad’s body, citing experience gained from embalming his late father.
However, upon being summoned, he denied the confession, attributing it to a hack of his Instagram account.
During investigations, Darosha implicated Adura Aloba in the embalming process.
Despite assurances from the then Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Zone 2, Mr. Durosimi Olatoye, no significant progress has been reported in the case.
The foundation highlighted several connections between recent statements and evidence presented at the Coroner’s Court.
These include Adura’s admission of hearing a loud noise from Mohbad’s room, which he shared with Omowunmi Aloba, and finding his brother lifeless—a statement that aligns with other testimonies.
The foundation urged the police to interrogate the three suspects named in their petition and conduct forensic analyses of the phones linked to this case.
“We call on Yomi Fabiyi, who has expressed willingness to cooperate, to assist as a principal witness,” Omodia said.
The foundation assured the public that it would closely monitor developments and ensure transparency in the process. It also urged the Nigerian Police Force to work collaboratively with civil society organisations to bring closure to the case.
Segun Alara, a legal representative of the foundation, expressed confidence in the police’s ability to carry out a thorough investigation.
He emphasised the need for forensic analysis to restore public trust in the justice system.
“This young man, Mohbad, was a promising and beloved artist who touched many lives with his music. Justice must be served, not just for him but for all Nigerians who deserve to believe in a functioning system,” Alara stated.
