Lagos State government has promised to wade into the alleged imposition of the Olumegbon family as the new traditional ruler of the Ajah community.

Members of the community had protested the alleged imposition at the Lagos State House of Assembly and the Governor’s office, seeking the government’s intervention to prevent conflict within the community.

Deputy Director at the Office of Political, Legislative, and Civic Engagement, Kemi Arigbangba, however, urged the community to remain calm. She assured them that their grievances would be communicated to the governor and addressed promptly.

“We understand your concerns and assure you that this matter will not be ignored. The governor will address it as soon as the House of Assembly resumes, ensuring an effective resolution,” Arigbangba said.

During their peaceful protests, the Ajah community appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene in the alleged imposition of the Olumegbon family as the new traditional ruler of the area.

Leading the protesters, the general secretary of the community, Kazeem Odunlami, emphasised the urgency of their appeal, stating that the community was united in opposing the imposition of the Olumegbon family, which they believe contradicts their historical and cultural practices.

“We don’t want the governor to listen to misleading misinformation towards the ownership of Ajah. We all know that the state government may not be aware of the planned imposition, that’s why we are here again to bring it to his notice. We are begging the state government to save our souls from this imposition to avoid communal clashes in the Ajah community,” Odunlami said.
