MDCN grants grace period for practitioners’ 2025 license renewal

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has announced an extension for payment of the 2025 Practising Licence fees for medical practitioners in the country. The new deadline set for January 7, 2025, includes a waiver of the late payment surcharge for those who missed the original December 31, 2024 deadline.

In a statement, the Management of the Council explained that the extension comes in response to high traffic on the MDCN Portal in late December, which caused congestion and potentially prevented practitioners from renewing their licenses on time.

The MDCN said it is offering the grace period to allow practitioners to update their personal information and pay the necessary fees to ensure their licenses are reflected on the Master Register for 2025.

All affected practitioners are encouraged to take advantage of the seven-day window to renew their licenses as payments made after January 8, 2025, will incur the usual late renewal surcharges. The statement reads

“The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) is pleased to announce an extension for the payment of 2025 Practising Licence fees without surcharge, now extended to 7th January 2025.

“Every registered practitioner must renew their practising licence for 2025. This extension is being provided to enable practitioners, who missed the 31st December 2024 deadline due to high traffic causing congestion on the MDCN Portal in the last few days of December, to update their personal records and pay the required fees for the 2025 practising licence.

“It is this information that will be reflected on the Master Register. We encourage all affected practitioners to take advantage of this opportunity within the seven (7) day period.

“Payments for the 2025 practising licence fees to be made from 8th January, 2025 onwards will automatically incur the usual surcharges for late renewal,” the statement noted.
