The Advocacy for Disability Act Cluster has commended the Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, for signing the Gombe State Disability Protection Law and establishing the Gombe State Disability Commission.
This landmark legislation aims to empower and include persons with disabilities in Gombe State, ensuring social justice and protecting their rights.
According to the ADAC cluster anchor and Executive Director of Inclusive Friends Association, Grace Jerry, Governor Yahaya’s swift action in establishing the Disability Commission on the same day he signed the law demonstrates his commitment to inclusivity and proactive governance.
She said, “This move has brought joy to the over half a million persons with disabilities in Gombe State, marking a new era of inclusivity and accessibility.”
ADAC has also praised the Gombe State House of Assembly, particularly the Speaker, Abubakar Muhammad Luggerewo, for prioritizing the disability bill and ensuring its passage into law.
The organisation acknowledged the efforts of various stakeholders, including the Joint Association of Persons with Disability, the Gombe State Network of Civil Society, and the media agencies, in achieving this milestone.
“The Gombe State Disability Protection Law is expected to significantly impact the lives of persons with disabilities, affecting areas such as education, transportation, health, infrastructure, and political participation. ADAC encourages all stakeholders to continue working together to ensure the successful implementation of the law and the Disability Commission,” Jerry added.
