Oyo students, 3, remanded for allegedly causing death of colleague

An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan has remanded three students in custody over the alleged murder of their fellow student. Shodimu Halima, 18; Agbedun Zainab, 23; and Olaleye Oladunni, 23, all from Iseyin College of Health Science and Technology, face charges of conspiracy and murder.

The Magistrate, Mr. M. Mudashiru, issued the remand order due to lack of jurisdiction to hear their pleas, directing their detention at the Agodi Correctional Centre. This decision remains pending the legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), with the case adjourned to December 30 for further proceedings.

Prosecutor Insp. Femi Oluwadare reported that the students allegedly conspired with others to assault Eniola Ismail, 16, leading to her death. The incident reportedly occurred on July 29, when the defendants were accused of beating Ismail at their school. She subsequently complained of body pains at home and later died.

The charges against the defendants are in violation of Section 316 and punishable under Sections 319 and 324 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
