LASG adopts e-call-up system for Lekki-Epe traffic management

In an effort to alleviate truck congestion and enhance logistics operations within the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone corridor, the Lagos State Government has introduced the e-call-up system for managing truck movements.

The system is set to commence on September 23, 2024.

The e-call-up system is described as a sustainable, effective, and technology-driven solution for regulating truck movement in the Lekki-Epe corridor.

According to a statement by the Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the Ministry of Transportation, Bolanle Ogunlola, this new system aims to streamline truck access to the Lekki Deep Seaport and other industrial areas, from Eleko Junction to the Lekki Free Trade Zone. The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, highlighted that the e-call-up system will synchronise truck movements, addressing the congestion issues in the area.

He noted that the system was part of broader plans by both state and federal governments to expand road networks and develop inter-modal transport systems to improve traffic flow and ensure smoother transit in the zone.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, who is responsible for overseeing the enforcement of the e-call-up system, added that interim measures are being implemented to ease road congestion.

These measures include the removal of illegal tankers from designated red zones through a joint task force.

Giwa urged truck operators and logistics companies to adhere to the new system to ensure its effectiveness.

The e-call-up system, an advanced digital platform, is designed to regulate truck entry and exit in the Lekki-Epe area by scheduling and coordinating their movements. This will help prevent the frequent traffic chaos caused by indiscriminate parking and the movement of trucks within the corridor.

The Lekki-Epe corridor, a vital economic hub in Lagos, hosts several key industries, including the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Dangote Refinery, and Lekki Deep Sea Port.
