The Adamawa State Chief Judge, Justice Hasfat Abdulrahaman, has discharged a total of 156 inmates during her two-day visit to three correctional centres in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

The Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee, which is led by the Chief Judge of the state, embarked on visits to the different correctional centres on Monday. The committee on Thursday discharged 32, granted bail to 16 inmates and reviewed 26 cases at the Jimeta Correctional Centre Yola.

Cases reviewed bordered mainly on civil matters, during which some inmates were placed on non-custodial, community services, from one month to three months, respectively. The 300-capacity-facility currently houses over 392 inmates, exceeding the required figure.

Speaking shortly after the exercise at the Jimeta Correctional Centre, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman counselled the beneficiaries to justify the gesture by the committee by being of worthy character.

She admonished them to steer clear of all forms of complicity. Otherwise, the full wrath of the law will catch up with them again.

Earlier, the controller, Jimeta Correctional Centre, Mohammed Juta, with the Chief Judge, and her team pointed out that the exercise would also help to decongest the centre.Speaking on behalf of the discharged inmates, Emmanuel Àdamu Makshan appreciated the Chief Judge for the magnanimous gesture.
