Ondo lawyer arraigned for allegedly forging client’s Will

A lawyer identified as Olusegun Agunloye has been arraigned by the Ondo State Police for allegedly forging the Will of the late Benjamin Chibuzor Ejelonu and presenting it to the court probate registry in Akure, the state capital.

Agunloye is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and forgery, which he allegedly committed on September 7, 2023. The police prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin, informed the court that the defendant conspired with Aminat Ijeoma Bakare, a sister of the deceased, to forge the Will with the intent to defraud Oluwamodupe Ejelonu without her consent.

According to Akintimehin, the offence contravenes Sections 516 and 467(2)(f) of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006. However, Agunloye pleaded not guilty to the charges.The prosecutor requested an adjournment to enable him to assemble his witnesses and consolidate the two charges before the court. Presiding Magistrate Kolawole Aro granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million and two sureties.

The case has been adjourned to a later date for further hearing, and the court is expected to determine the veracity of the allegations against the defendant. If found guilty, Agunloye could face severe legal consequences for his alleged involvement in the forgery of the late Benjamin Chibuzor Ejelonu’s Will.
