NBA AGC 2024: A recap

The Nigerian Bar Association held its 32nd Annual Bar Conference in Lagos Island, Lagos State starting from the 23rd day of August, 2024 to 29th day of August, 2024. The event records good participation from lawyers and others across the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.

this is the recap statement issued by the Alt. Chairman, Med. Pub. Sub. Com., Charles Ajiboye,Esq. as follows

Dear Esteemed Members,

Over the last few months, we have kept you updated on the latest news and developments regarding the AGC2024. We are delighted to provide you with a comprehensive recap of the NBA Annual General Conference 2024.

The conference was a resounding success, featuring numerous activities, discussions, and networking opportunities.

Delegates’ Registration

The registration process ran smoothly from Friday, 23rd to Monday, 26th August 2024, at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS). The registration desks were open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily, ensuring a seamless registration process. The Jumaat Prayers was well attended and prayers were said for the profession and its members.

Health Walk

On Saturday, 24th August 2024, the conference continued with a Health Walk and Tree Planting event at 7:00 a.m., starting from TBS to Ikoyi and ending at Onikan Stadium. This was followed by the President’s Cup Quarter Finals at Onikan Stadium, where the competitive spirit was high.

The Pre-Conference NEC held at the Nigerian Law School Auditorium in Victoria Island witnessed critical discussions in the afternoon. The day concluded with the Chief Judge of Lagos State Welcome Cocktail at the Nigerian Law School, setting a welcoming tone for the rest of the conference.

Sunday, 25th August 2024

The day started with a Thanksgiving Service at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, at 9:00 a.m. Following this, the Young Lawyers’ Introductory Session was held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Eko Hotel, providing valuable insights for newcomers to the profession.

The Opening Ceremony at Eko Hotel & Suites Convention Centre was a grand affair, running from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The President officially opened the Friendship Centre later at 7:00 p.m. at the Tafawa Balewa Square Marquee. The Friendship Centre was a colorful place full of activities, games, and daily social events, including open mic and karaoke.

Monday, 26th August 2024

The day kicked off with the Opening Plenary at 9:00 a.m. at Eko Hotel, featuring engaging discussions. The keynote speech for the day was delivered by the Former President of Ghana, followed by a session involving female bank Managing Directors.

The Breakout Sessions began at 2:30 p.m. across various locations at the Conference Arena, covering a wide range of topics. The President’s Cup Finals took place at 3:00 p.m. at Onikan Stadium, with thrilling matches that kept the audience on the edge of their seats.

The President’s Dinner at Eko Hotel & Suites Convention Centre at 7:00 p.m. provided a perfect end to a day of productive discussions and networking, with the dinner speech delivered by Hon. Justice Amina Augie, JSC (RTD).

Tuesday, 27th August 2024

Breakout Sessions continued, offering in-depth explorations of critical legal issues. The day concluded with the UnBARred Concert at Federal Palace Hotel, starting at 7:30 p.m. and extending into the early hours of the morning, providing a fun and relaxed atmosphere for all attendees.

Wednesday, 28th August 2024

The conference wrapped up with the Sections’ AGM at 9:30 a.m. and the NBA AGM, held at Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all participants, speakers, organizers and Volunteers who made the NBA Annual General Conference 2024 a tremendous success. Your contributions and presence were invaluable.

It is on this note that I thank you all for your support during my period of service. While it lasted, I’m happy I gave my best and worked as a team to elevate the Publicity Secretariat of the NBA.
