Imo Court halts demolition of central market

Issues injunction against Gov Uzodimma

The High Court sitting in Imo State has issued order of interim injunction against the Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodimma and five others from taking any further steps in forceful demolition of the structures erected on the piece of land known as the central market layout Owerri Imo State.

The Order of Court by Hon. Justice I. C. Ibeawuchi was disclosed to newsmen in Owerri on Thursday, by Lawyer Christian Nwadigo on behalf of the legal team of the plaintiffs.

The other defendants affected in the matter, include the Owerri Central Market Complex Development and Investment Company Limited, Donez Global Services Limited, Joe Johnny Jayson Enterprises Limited, the Attorney General, Imo state and Nigeria Export-Import Bank (NEXIM).

On the side of the plaintiffs, were the Incorporated Board of Trustees of Rhema Life Ministry International, Sunway Global Properties Limited, Zero -one Global Properties Limited, Ekpereamaka Jessica Nwankwo, Nwankwo Emmanuel for themselves and on behalf of all owners of the land within Central Market layout Owerri Imo state.

According to the order of the court as follows; “Order of Interim Injunction is hereby granted restraining the Defendants either by themselves or through their agents, servants, assigns, heirs, privies or any other person acting on their behalf from taking any further steps in furtherance of the forceful demolition of the structures erected by the Plaintiffs on the piece of land known as the central market layout Owerri Imo State pending the hearing and determination of the motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction filed by the Plaintiffs/Applicants.”

Also, the order of court warned against forcefully ejecting the Plaintiffs/Applicants from the structures erected by them (Plaintiffs/Applicants) on the piece of land known as the central market layout Owerri Imo State as well as from further construction of the ongoing perimeter fencing work around the structures erected by the plaintiffs pending the hearing and determination of the motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction filed by the Plaintiffs/Applicants.”

However, the order of the court said: “The Interim Injunction granted above shall be in place for the first seven days and shall stand renewed at the expiration of same for another seven days.”
