Engineers commend Dangote Refinery construction global standards

The Nigerian Academy of Engineering, the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria have lauded the Dangote Petroleum Refinery for adopting world-class technology and adherence to high engineering standards in its construction.

They stated this during a recent visit to the refinery.

NAE President, Prof. Rahamon Bello, represented by the immediate past president of the academy, Prof. Azikiwe Onwualu, hailed the Dangote refinery for its compliance with European Union standards in all engineering facilities.

He noted that the tools and technologies deployed in the construction were of the highest European standards, ensuring that the refinery stood as a beacon of engineering excellence.

“This is probably the highest you can think about in terms of engineering standards worldwide.

“The importance of adhering to standards is that you ensure that the processes through which you make a product follow rigorous guidelines, and because of that, the final product meets those same high standards. We are satisfied with all the standards we’ve seen and the commitment to quality in their manufacturing processes,” he stated.

The President of COREN, Sadiq Zubair, noted that the involvement of local experts in significant areas of the project demonstrated the competence and capability of Nigerian engineers.

Zubair emphasised that the refinery would play a transformative role in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, with engineering bodies ready to support its success.

“The refinery is not just a project; it is a Nigerian prize, something that all Nigerians, wherever they are, can be proud of,” he remarked.

Also, the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Margaret Oguntala, described the Dangote Refinery as a massive investment equipped with state-of-the-art technology and machinery.

She expressed optimism that the refinery represented a positive shift for Nigeria, offering hope for improved economic conditions.

“This refinery is a symbol of progress and a harbinger of better days for our country,” Oguntala stated.

The Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, Devakumar Edwin, announced that the refinery was on track to commence the production of Premium Motor Spirit by the first week of September 2024.
