Three arraigned over alleged theft of Lagos transformer valued N50m

Three men were arraigned on Tuesday before an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing an electricity transformer valued at N50 million.

The defendants, Kehinde Akinkugbe, Tope Salisu, and Isiaka Amusa, who did not provide their addresses, are facing charges of conspiracy, theft, and malicious damage. They all pleaded not guilty.

According to Prosecutor ASP Aminu Isaac, the defendants committed the offenses around 2:30 a.m. on August 22 at Ajeri Street, Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos.

He explained that the men maliciously damaged an electricity transformer owned by the Federal Government.

The prosecutor further noted that local residents apprehended the defendants and reported the incident to the police.

The charges against them are in violation of Sections 411, 287, and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Chief Magistrate A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu granted bail to each defendant in the amount of N1 million, with two sureties in the same amount.

One of the sureties must own landed property and present proof of three years of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

The case has been adjourned until October 10 for mention.(NAN)
