Keyamo promises swift resettlement compensation of Okuama villagers

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on Monday, promised his commitment to ensuring speedy resettlement of the displaced people of the Okuama community, in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The troubled Okuama indigenes are presently taking refuge at the Ewu-Urhobo Internally Displaced Persons camp established for them by the Delta State Government.

The setting up of the camp followed the demolition of their agrarian homestead by the military, in retaliation against the March 14, 2024 killing of 17 officers and soldiers said to be on a peace mission to the locality.

Keyamo, represented by a delegation led by Sam Onokohwomo, at the Ewu-Urhobo IDP camp, on Monday, expressed concern for their plight and assured them that “all issues surrounding their displacement are being diligently addressed.”

Onokohwomo said “The Honourable Minister is committed to ensuring that the Okuama people return to their ancestral lands with dignity and peace.

“The resettlement process is already being expedited, and we assure you that your return home will happen in no distant time.”

The delegation donated 100 bags of 25kg of rice to the camp’s management for the upkeep of the Okuama people.

Responding, the secretary of the IDP camp management committee expressed appreciation to the minister on behalf of the camp management and assured him that the community remained hopeful for a swift resolution to their predicament.
