Justice Abai inaugurates Abia environmental sanitation court

Determined to enforce environmental sanitation laws, the Abia state government, through the state Chief Judge (CJ) Justice Lilian Abai has inaugurated 17 presiding officers (POs) and 32 members of the state environmental sanitation court.

Each of the 17 POs comprising serving and retired male and female judicial officers is to preside over a Council court with the members deployed to their court.

The Chief Judge tasked the appointees after administering the oath of office on them, to strictly enforce the state environmental sanitation law to enable the state to sustain its position among the cleanest states in the country.

She told them that their selection from among many was based on their testament, qualification and dedication to duties, charging them not to relent in the discharge of their new assignment.

The spokesman for the 17 POs, Mr Onuma Kalu Onuma, said they would strive to discharge their duties by the law, without fear or favour. Similarly, the spokesman for the members, Mr Alilionwu Nwazue thanked the government and the CJ for considering them worthy of the appointment. He prayed to God to give them the enablement to discharge their duties creditably.

The state’s Information and Culture Commissioner, Prince Okey Kanu expressed government’s worry over street trading, illegal operation of motor parks, vandalism and indiscriminate waste/refuse disposal. He assured that the government was set to enforce the extant laws as well as do other needful to address these challenges.
