Not everyone has had a reason to get an affidavit. However, there is an affidavit for everyone, depending on the situation. Sounds funny, right?

Aside from this, getting an affidavit in Nigeria either through the online method or the traditional method can be very frustrating. But what you’ve had a reason to get, there are people who don’t know there is anything like an affidavit.

This article talks about what it means, uses and some existing types of affidavit.

AFFIDAVIT
An affidavit is a written statement or document of swearing an oath to be truthful about the subject matter which the affiant and the legal administrator of the oath often sign. Here, the affiant is the person making the statement of an oath, and the legal administrator is a notary public, a court, and government officers.

Examples of such authorised individuals are a judge, and a registrar/signatory. In Nigeria, affidavits serve different purposes including legal and administrative ones.

It is also often used for identification, affirming facts, and providing evidence for an action or an occurrence.

Types and uses of an affidavit?
An affidavit has various uses, and they are often determined by the type. Therefore, we’ll be examining some of the types of affidavits that we have.

1. The general form of an affidavit
This is also called a general affidavit. Most times, they are used for the proceeding of court cases.

2. Affidavit of correction of SIM registration details
This is often gotten in a case where there’s an error in the details of registration details one’s SIM.

3. Affidavit of correction of BVN registration details
This is obtained when the details on the BVN of an individual are incorrectly inspired. It could be a misspelt name or anything else. After the affidavit, banks will also require you do get a newspaper publication.

4. Affidavit of Change of signature
This document is often used to declare a significant change in a person’s signature due to reasons best known to them. Some of such reasons could be personal reasons, legal requirements, etc.

5. Affidavit of Withdrawal of case
This document affirms that an application to a cause or a court case has been discontinued.

6. Affidavit of Declaration of Marriage
This confirms that someone is no longer single and they are married.

7. Affidavit of Correction of date of birth
When there is an error in the name on someone’s date of birth, this kind of affidavit is obtained.

8. Affidavit of Change of name
This represents an affidavit issued when a man or a woman wants to change their name under given circumstances like marriage, preferences or anything else.

9. Affidavit of Bachelorhood
This is an affidavit that is obtained when people are doubting the natural status of a man. He can then swear to an affidavit of bachelorhood.

10. Affidavit of Spinsterhood
This confirms the marital status of a woman who is a spinster.

11. Affidavit of Good Conduct
Obtaining an affidavit of this kind would require that you’re either a fresh student in the university or a new employee. It’s however not limited to these specifications. The point of this is to ascertain that an individual is of good conduct. The witness is often supposed to stand in for the person whose conduct is in question.

12. Affidavit of Next of kin
This is an affidavit that acknowledges who the closest relative of a deceased is. This relative, however, must be alive.

13. Affidavit of loss of passport and documents
This is often used when an individual loses their international passport and other important credentials.

14. Affidavit of Change of Vehicle engine
When the engine of a vehicle is changed, this is obtained as evidence that it’s true.

15. Affidavit of Change of Vehicle Ownership
This is obtained to declare that the ownership of a vehicle has been transferred to another person.

16. Affidavit of Loss of SIM
An individual has to obtain this when they’ve lost their SIM cards and they want to retrieve their line(s).

17. Affidavit of Residence
To confirm where someone lives under any circumstance when the need may arise.

18. Affidavit of Identity
This document verifies a person’s identity especially when there is doubt on its authenticity.

19. Affidavit of Death
This affidavit used to declare that someone has died. It is also used to remove such individual from title to a property.

20. Financial Affidavit
This statement is used to declare the financial status of an individual including their assets, liabilities, income, and expenditure.

In conclusion, the use of an affidavit is connected to the type, and beyond the above mentioned, there are many more types of affidavit that exist.
