The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) is set to begin its final interviews for the 2024 Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) conferment exercise. The highly anticipated interviews will commence on July 30, 2024, and conclude on July 31, 2024.
The committee recently released a list of 98 shortlisted applicants, comprising 87 in the Advocate category and 11 in the Academic category. The shortlisted candidates include prominent lawyers such as the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulkarim Kana, and former NBA National Officer, Monday Ubani and Messrs Kunle Edun, Stanley Imo.
In a statement by LPPC Secretary, Hajo Sarki-Bello, the public was invited to comment on the integrity, reputation, and competence of the applicants. The statement emphasized that the publication of the shortlisted applicants’ names does not indicate their success in the process.
It is expected that the LPPC will announce the results of the successful applicants immediately after the interviews and a final plenary session. During this session, the committee will review the interview results, chamber inspection reports, and any petitions received against the applicants.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has already concluded its interview of the applicants, which took place on July 19 and 20, 2024. The interview panel included Mr. Garba Tetengi SAN, Chairman of the NBA General Purposes Committee, and other prominent legal professionals.
